Opportunities Fair

Opportunities Fair a Success

On Sunday 16 October, nearly 1500 young people spent the day with their families at the Guildhall in Portsmouth being inspired by the opportunities available to them in Portsmouth.  There were over 80 local businesses present showcasing what their companies do giving the young people an insight and time to think about their future careers in their town.

The fair was put in place to help raise the aspirations in Portsmouth and create a positive image of the city and highlight the wide range of employment and career opportunities it presents.

Although the event was aimed at 10 to 13 year olds it clearly appealed to all ages.

This event was a real team effort with a lot of hard work and commitment from so many organisations.  EBP would like to thank all the local businesses who spent time talking and working with the young people and creating interactive events in order to ensure they enjoyed the day and got the most out of the experience.

Cath Longhurst, CEO for EBP described the event as ‘fabulous’, adding we’ve had some amazing feedback from people on the stands, from parentssaying they’ve seen companies here that they’ve never heard of before.

‘We’ve had people coming in from the street thanks to it being broadcast on the big screen, and they’re all families, which is really nice to see.

‘The response has been amazing. We’ve had people in who wouldn’t go to similar events, such as careers fairs, and it’s really opened people’s eyes to the things going on in the city that are really quite exciting.

‘A lot of the companies are saying ‘can we do this annually?’. As long as we have their support, I think that has to happen.’

Vicki Boulton, Marketing Manager of ahmarra said
“I just wanted to take the time to thank you for allowing us to take part in the fair.  We thoroughly enjoyed our day and met hundreds of children who were a credit to Portsmouth schools and it was very useful to network with lots of other local companies”.
